1. 失去常业；失所。

2. 怠忽职守；未尽职责。

   《左传·昭公七年》：“夫物物有其官，官修其方，朝夕思之。一日失职，则死及之。” 杜预 注：“失职有罪。”《诗·召南·采蘩序》：“夫人可以奉祭祀，则不失职矣。” 毛 传：“不失职者，夙夜在公也。” 宋 陆游 《老学庵笔记》卷四：“ 曾子开 封 曲阜 县子， 谢任伯 封 阳夏 县伯。 曲阜 ，今 仙源县 ； 阳夏 ，今 城父县 ，方疏封时，已无二县矣。司封殆失职也。”

3. 失去职权。

   明 王鏊 《震泽长语·官制》：“ 光武 中兴，身亲庶务，事归臺阁，尚书始重，而 西汉 公卿稍以失职矣。”

4. 越职。

   宋 叶梦得 《石林燕语》卷八：“召学士 王禹玉 草制， 禹玉 辞曰：‘当使舍人院草敕尔，学士非所预，不敢失职也。’”
