爬行动物，外形像龟，四肢呈桨状，前肢稍长，尾短小，甲壳黄褐色，有黑斑，很光润，性暴烈，吃鱼、软体动物、海藻等，生活在热带和亚热带海中。

1. 亦作“瑇瑁”。爬行动物，形似龟。甲壳黄褐色，有黑斑和光泽，可做装饰品。甲片可入药。

2. 指玳瑁的甲壳。亦指用其甲壳制成的装饰品。
