用油调和颜料绘制的画。是西方绘画中一个主要的画种。油画能较充分地表现对象的复杂色调和丰富的层次。

1. 古时指用油彩涂绘。

   《晋书·舆服志》：“皇后先蚕，乘油画云母安车，驾六騩马；油画两辕安车，驾五騩马，为副。”《宋史·舆服志一》：“玉輅，自 唐 显庆 中传之，至 宋 曰‘ 显庆 輅’，亲郊则乘之。制作精巧……其制：箱上置平盘、黄屋，四柱皆油画刻鏤。”

2. 西洋画的主要画种，用快干油调和颜料在布、木板或厚纸版上绘成。

   曹禺 《雷雨》第一幕：“右边壁炉上有一只钟，墙上挂一幅油画。” 茅盾 《喜剧》：“真不料 金 的眉头也皱起来了，换上一枝烟，猛力吸着，这位主人仰起脸看墙上的裸体油画。”
