日本祭祀阵亡官兵的地方。1869年建于东京。原名东京招魂社”。1879年改现名。其中供奉着自明治维新以来在历次战争中阵亡的二百余万名官兵,包括第二次世界大战中的战犯。以前每年春、秋由天皇或皇室代表主持大祭,曾是宣扬军国主义、鼓吹侵略政策的场所。第二次世界大战后,日本宪法规定,国家不参与靖国神社的祭祀活动。但仍有不少军国主义分子借该处祭祀侵略者亡灵,试图复活军国主义,引起国际社会的强烈反响。
