双子叶植物，夹竹桃科。常绿大灌木。叶狭长如竹，花红色娇艳似桃，故名。原产印度、伊朗一带。是中国各地常见的栽培观赏植物。全株可提取强心剂。茎、叶有毒，可作杀虫剂。茎皮纤维可作混纺原料。

1. 常绿灌木。花桃红色或白色，叶对生或三枚轮生，狭长似竹，故名夹竹桃。叶、花、树皮均有毒，含强心甙。

2. 凤仙花的别名。见 明 李时珍 《本草纲目·草六·凤仙》。
