中国现存最古的佛寺之一。在山西五台县佛光山。现为国家重点文物保护单位。据说始建于北魏孝文帝时期，大殿于唐大中11年修建，配殿建于金天会15年。大殿、配殿还有唐幢、唐塑、壁画、墨迹题字以及北魏、唐、金之基塔，都是世间的瑰宝。

   宋 邵博 《闻见后录》卷二八：“《唐穆宗实録》： 元和 十五年四月四日， 河东 节度使 裴度 奏： 五臺山 佛光寺 侧，庆云现。”
