单一频率(或波长)的光。不能产生色散。由红到紫的七色光中的每种色光并非单色光，它们都有相当宽的频率(或波长)范围，如波长为077～0622微米范围内的光都称红光，而氦氖激光器辐射的光波单色性最好，波长为06328微米，可认为是一种单色光。
