东晋谯郡fc58(今安徽宿县境内)人。字叔夏，小字野王。善吹笛。淝水之战立有大功。曾抚筝而歌，讽谏孝武帝应和宰相谢安合作。又曾在青溪河边应王徽之要求，奏笛曲《三调》，奏毕即离去。明代《神奇秘谱》所载琴曲《梅花三弄》，据说即根据此笛曲改编而成。
